In a significant step toward strengthening rural waste management infrastructure, six four-wheeler waste collection vehicles were distributed on Wednesday afternoon at the District Magistrate’s office premises in West Tripura District.

The vehicles were formally handed over to six rural blocks—Belbari Block, Dukli Block, Jirania Block, Lefunga Block, Mandai Block, and Mohanpur Block. The initiative aims to enhance solid waste collection systems in rural areas and promote cleaner and healthier surroundings.

These four-wheeled mini waste collection trucks are designed specifically for rural conditions, making them suitable for narrow and small village roads. Equipped with a hydraulic dumping (tipping) system, the vehicles allow for quick and efficient unloading of collected waste. They also feature covered hopper bodies to minimize foul odors and reduce environmental pollution.

The distribution event was attended by several dignitaries, including the acting chairperson of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Biswajit Shil, and District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar of Agartala, along with other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kumar stated that the vehicles have been procured under the Swachh Bharat Mission to improve rural sanitation services. He added that three of the six vehicles have already been deployed across blocks, while the remaining units will be assigned soon. Each vehicle was purchased at an estimated cost of around ₹11 lakh.

Officials expressed hope that the newly introduced waste collection system will be used effectively to ensure better sanitation management across rural areas of West Tripura.
