Ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), a high-level meeting in New Delhi between Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and Tipra Motha founder Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has intensified speculation over a possible political understanding between the BJP and Tipra Motha.

Chief Minister Manik Saha said he met Amit Shah in New Delhi and described the discussions as “fruitful and constructive”. He said the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest as well as the development and welfare of the people of Tripura.

Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma and BJP’s North East Coordinator Dr. Sambit Patra were also present during the meeting.

According to sources, the meeting, held at Shah’s residence, primarily focused on issues concerning the state’s indigenous tribal population, the implementation of the Tripartite Agreement and preparations for the forthcoming Village Committee elections.

Sources claimed that Shah assured the Tipra Motha leadership that steps would be taken towards implementing the Tripartite Agreement at the earliest. The issue has remained a major political demand of the party and a key point of discussion between Tipra Motha and the BJP.

Sources further claimed that discussions also covered land rights for indigenous communities, with an assurance that such rights would be addressed in accordance with the provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

The meeting has assumed political significance ahead of the Village Committee polls, with the possibility of an electoral understanding between the BJP and Tipra Motha once again becoming a subject of intense speculation in Tripura’s political circles.
