Tripura is exploring the possibility of bringing the Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU) to the state as part of efforts to expand cooperative education and strengthen the sector’s human-resource base.

Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia held discussions in New Delhi with Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation, regarding the proposed establishment of the university at the premises of the Tripura State Cooperative Union (TSCU).

The meeting focused on the feasibility and future roadmap for setting up the institution in Tripura. Noatia said the discussions were encouraging and expressed optimism that the initiative could move forward from the next financial year.

The proposed university is expected to provide young people in the state with greater access to specialised education, training and academic opportunities linked to the cooperative sector.

The initiative could also help strengthen existing cooperative institutions by creating a pool of trained professionals and encouraging greater participation of educated youth in cooperative activities.

Noatia said the proposed establishment of TSU in Tripura would be an important step towards empowering the younger generation while giving fresh momentum to the cooperative movement across the state.

The state government is now hopeful of further progress on the proposal in the coming financial year.
