Travellers arriving in Tripura will now have easier access to organised, app-based transportation with the introduction of Uber cab services at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport.

Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the new service on Thursday, marking a significant move towards integrating technology with the state’s transport infrastructure. The initiative also virtually connects Agartala Railway Station and Jagannathnagar Railway Station with the new cab-booking facility.

With the service now available, passengers arriving at these key entry points can book cabs through their mobile phones, offering a more convenient alternative to searching for vehicles after arrival. The digital booking system is also expected to bring greater transparency to fares and reduce disputes between passengers and drivers.

The government has simultaneously introduced a Tourist Information Centre at MBB Airport to provide assistance to visitors coming to Tripura. Tourists will be able to obtain information about popular destinations, accommodation options and local attractions, along with guidance to help them plan their journeys across the state.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the government was focusing on the effective use of digital technology to improve public services and strengthen Tripura’s image as a safe and visitor-friendly destination.

He said modern transport facilities could play an important role in boosting tourism by making travel within the state more convenient for visitors from other parts of India and abroad.

The integration of the airport and railway stations into a common app-based mobility network is expected to strengthen connectivity at Tripura’s major gateways and provide visitors with a smoother travel experience from the moment they arrive in the state.
