A young homemaker died while undergoing treatment at the GBP Hospital in Agartala, prompting her family to allege that a delay in shifting her to the ICU may have contributed to her death.
The deceased, Monti Bhowmik, hailed from the Gandhigram area and was married to Bidhu Barman, whose family resides in the Tepania area of Udaipur.
According to family members, Monti was initially admitted to a hospital in Udaipur after developing a fever. Her health condition subsequently worsened, particularly after she developed breathing difficulties. Concerned over her deteriorating condition, the family brought her to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.
However, she could not be saved and died at the hospital.
Her husband was reportedly inconsolable following her death. The family later alleged that Monti's condition required urgent critical care and claimed that she might have had a chance of survival had she been shifted to the ICU promptly.
The relatives questioned the treatment process and accused the attending doctor of failing to take timely action despite the patient's worsening condition. The allegations have once again triggered concerns over emergency medical care at the state's premier government hospital.
Tension reportedly rose at the hospital following the woman's death, with a relative confronting and verbally abusing the attending doctor. The outburst came amid the family's emotional distress over the loss.
The allegations of medical negligence are yet to be independently established. The hospital authorities' response to the family's allegations is awaited.
