In a significant initiative aimed at improving sports infrastructure for women athletes, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee has sanctioned Rs 2.80 crore from his Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund for the construction of a dedicated dressing room for women players at Umakanta Mini Stadium in Agartala.

Umakanta Mini Stadium is one of Tripura’s important sporting venues and regularly hosts various state and national-level sporting events. However, the absence of a proper and dedicated dressing room for women athletes has remained a longstanding concern.

Considering the needs of women players, steps have now been taken to construct a separate dressing room equipped with modern facilities. The proposed infrastructure, funded through the MP’s allocation, is expected to provide greater convenience and support to women athletes during training sessions and competitions.

Sports stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important step towards strengthening sports infrastructure for women in the state. They expressed hope that the new dressing room will provide women athletes with a more comfortable, secure and improved environment at the stadium.

The initiative is also expected to encourage greater participation of women in sporting activities and contribute to the overall development of women’s sports infrastructure in Tripura.
