The Unakoti district administration, in collaboration with the Health Department, has stepped up surveillance and preventive measures to contain the spread of measles and rubella in the district.

District Magistrate Megha Jain announced that a special Measles-Rubella (MR) immunisation campaign will soon be launched to ensure vaccination coverage for all children up to 10 years of age.

Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday at the District Magistrate’s chamber, Megha Jain stated that the current situation in the district remains stable and under control. The briefing was attended by National Health Mission Joint MD Dr. Nupur Debbarma, World Health Organization representative Dr. Randeep Saha, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sandipan Bhattacharjee.

The District Magistrate said that due to Unakoti’s proximity to the Bangladesh border and the impact of infections reported in neighbouring areas, the administration is maintaining strict vigilance to prevent any possible outbreak. She noted that some children in the district are still outside the vaccination net, prompting authorities to organise a special drive to ensure complete MR vaccine coverage.

Appealing to the public not to panic, she urged parents to remain alert and immediately contact nearby health centres if children develop symptoms such as fever accompanied by reddish rashes or spots on the body.

Megha Jain further informed that the district administration and the Health Department are jointly working to strengthen healthcare services and eliminate measles and rubella from the district. Continuous monitoring and surveillance activities are also being carried out to keep the situation under control, she added.
