Tripura’s Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has assured the public that the state currently holds sufficient stocks of fuel and essential commodities, while also cautioning against panic buying and any attempt to create artificial shortages.

Addressing the media, he said that the government has already reviewed the situation with officials from the Food Department and oil marketing companies including Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrates.

He noted that recent long queues at petrol pumps in and around Agartala appeared suddenly, likely driven by public concern and misinformation, possibly linked to geopolitical tensions in parts of the Middle East. However, he clarified that there is no actual disruption in fuel supply.

According to him, Tripura currently has around 15 days of petrol and diesel reserves, and there is no reason for alarm.

He urged citizens not to fall for rumors and to use fuel responsibly, emphasizing that the government will inform the public well in advance if any genuine supply issue arises.

He further highlighted that essential food supplies are also adequately stocked under the public distribution system, including rice sufficient for 84 days, wheat for 57 days, sugar for 28 days, lentils for 34 days, and salt for about a week. He added that essential goods are also readily available in the open market.

The minister also warned that strict action and penalties will be imposed on anyone found hoarding goods or attempting to create artificial scarcity in the state.
