Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday assured citizens that the state has adequate fuel reserves and emphasized that there is no need for panic or unnecessary hoarding.

He expressed confidence that the nation would successfully overcome the present challenges through collective responsibility and disciplined use of resources.

Addressing the media in Agartala, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary purchases of fuel and gold and to use fuel judiciously. Following this guidance, the Tripura government has decided that 50 percent of Group C and Group D employees will work from home to help conserve fuel while ensuring uninterrupted administrative functioning.

Dr. Saha stated that the Prime Minister’s decisions are always taken with careful consideration, recalling how similar precautionary measures during the Covid-19 pandemic had helped the country manage difficult situations effectively. He noted that the people of Agartala are also showing awareness and responsibility, with noticeably fewer vehicles on the roads as citizens voluntarily reduce unnecessary travel to save fuel for essential needs.

The Chief Minister further informed that after returning from Guwahati, he held discussions with the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to ensure smooth implementation of the measures without creating public concern. He reiterated that while fuel imports remain under pressure, the government and the public must work together responsibly.

Expressing optimism, Dr. Saha said the situation would improve soon and added that the state government is also planning to strengthen the public transportation system to support citizens and reduce dependence on private vehicles.

He reassured the public that Tripura currently has sufficient fuel stock and clarified that there has been no directive regarding fuel rationing.
