The Tripura Human Rights Commission has directed the Director General of Police, Tripura, to submit a detailed report concerning serious allegations levelled against a senior police officer holding the rank of Superintendent of Police.
The directive follows media reports alleging that a 2010-batch Tripura Police Service (TPS) officer, currently serving as SP, was accused of attempting to engage in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a fellow woman police officer. According to the reports referenced by the Commission, the officer allegedly entered the woman officer’s residential quarters without permission and is said to have behaved inappropriately toward her after her husband had left the premises.
It has been further alleged that the incident occurred within police residential housing while the officer was on leave. The reports claim that when the woman officer raised an alarm, nearby residents responded, after which the accused officer reportedly left the scene.
Taking cognisance of the allegations, the Commission observed that such incidents, if substantiated, could seriously undermine public confidence in the police force and its functioning.
The Commission has instructed the DGP to examine the matter and furnish a comprehensive report based on the news reports and accompanying documents. Relevant newspaper clippings and a copy of the order have also been forwarded to the police headquarters for necessary review and action.
The matter has been scheduled for further consideration on June 11, 2026, when the Commission will review the report submitted by the DGP.
