The Government of India, under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has announced the appointment of six distinguished officers from the Tripura Civil Service (TCS) to the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The appointments have been made under the provisions of the IAS (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, the IAS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955, and the IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954.

The officers appointed to the IAS are Sarmistha Datta, presently posted in the Ministry of Textiles; Bimbisar Bhattacharya, serving as Director of Information and Cultural Affairs; Dr. Samit Roy Choudhury, Additional Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat; Akinchan Sarkar, Additional Secretary in the Finance Department; Sumit Lodh, Director of Food and Civil Supplies; and Rajesh Kr. Das, currently deputed at ONGC.

All these officers have been working with dedication, sincerity, and remarkable efficiency in different departments of the State Government. Through their administrative capabilities, commitment to public service, and tireless efforts towards the welfare and development of the people, they have significantly contributed to strengthening governance in Tripura. Their elevation to the IAS is being viewed as a proud moment for the state administration and a recognition of their outstanding service records.

The select list has been prepared against vacancies that arose between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025. The officers will remain on probation until further orders and have been allocated to the Tripura Cadre under the IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954.

However, the appointments will remain subject to the outcome of ongoing legal proceedings, including a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court of India concerning seniority issues within the Tripura Civil Service and an Original Application pending before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) regarding IAS promotions from the Tripura cadre.

The Government has clarified that these appointments are provisional in nature and will abide by the final judicial decisions in the pending matters.
