Heavy rainfall across the rural and hilly regions of the state has led to a significant rise in the water level of the Haora River. In the capital’s Boldakhal area, river water has reportedly crossed the danger mark, raising serious concerns about potential flooding.

Despite the worsening situation, residents allege that the administration has yet to respond effectively or initiate evacuation measures.

Local people living in the riverside Palpara area of Boldakhal say the situation began deteriorating after continuous heavy rain from Sunday night. By Monday morning, water had already started entering homes, creating alarming conditions.

“We have been experiencing heavy rainfall since Sunday night, and from Monday morning water started entering our houses. The situation is getting worse with time,” said a local woman speaking to reporters.

She further claimed that no officials had visited or checked on them until Monday afternoon. Residents fear that without immediate intervention from the administration, they may face severe hardship.

Many families have already begun packing essential belongings, preparing to leave at any moment if conditions worsen. They are demanding urgent relocation to safe shelters.

The residents also pointed out that in previous years, nearby public schools were not affected by floodwaters. However, in recent times, even these schools have reportedly been submerged during the monsoon season, forcing people to move to distant safe locations every year.

The situation is particularly difficult for elderly people and children, who are among the most vulnerable during such floods. Many daily wage workers in the area are also unable to go out for work due to the rising water levels.

Locals are urging authorities to take immediate action and evacuate riverside residents to relief camps before the situation worsens further.
