The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals along with an Indian accomplice for allegedly attempting to cross the India-Bangladesh border illegally through Tripura's Kadamtala sector.
The arrests were made on Sunday near Bajendranagar village under Kadamtala Police Station by personnel of the BSF's 97 Battalion during a routine patrol operation. Following their detention, the accused were handed over to Kadamtala Police for legal proceedings.
Police have registered a case under Sections 21 and 23(A) of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and produced the accused before the Dharmanagar District Court on Monday.
The Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Liton Mia (37) of Sreemangal, and Sabuj Mia (25) and Sayel Mia (30), both residents of Moulvibazar district. The Indian national, Manik Roy (42), is an auto-rickshaw driver from North Dhanichhara village under Pecharthal Police Station in Unakoti district.
During interrogation, the detainees reportedly revealed that they had entered India illegally through the Asharambari and Bajendranagar border areas of Khowai district nearly three to four months ago. Since then, they had been engaged in the fish fingerling trade in the Pecharthal region.
Investigators said the trio was attempting to return to Bangladesh and had allegedly contacted local human trafficker Sushil Das and his son Sanjay Das, who promised to facilitate their illegal border crossing in exchange for ₹3,000.
According to police, the group travelled to Bajendranagar in an auto-rickshaw (TR02C-3669) driven by Manik Roy. Posing as fish traders, they approached the border area and were allegedly preparing to cross into Bangladesh when BSF personnel intercepted them.
Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding suspects, Sushil Das and Sanjay Das. The incident has sparked discussion in the area and highlighted ongoing concerns over illegal cross-border movement and human trafficking networks operating along the international border.
