Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said the government would not tolerate the use of fake or unauthorised educational certificates for appearing in examinations or obtaining government jobs.

Speaking on concerns over B.Ed certificates obtained from institutions in West Bengal facing allegations of irregularities, Dr. Saha said the government would verify such qualifications and initiate legal action wherever wrongdoing is established.

“Someone cannot obtain a certificate from somewhere and come here to appear in an examination. This will not be allowed in any way. If anyone has done this, legal action will be taken,” the Chief Minister said.

He said the issue was particularly serious because the appointment of teachers on the basis of invalid qualifications could have a direct impact on the quality of education in the state.

The Chief Minister also made it clear that the scrutiny would not be limited to fresh candidates. Those already working in government service could also face action if their certificates are subsequently found to be fake or invalid.

Dr. Saha maintained that the government would not compromise on the quality of education or healthcare and would take necessary steps in accordance with the law.

His remarks came after reports of alleged irregularities in B.Ed colleges in West Bengal raised questions over certificates obtained by students from Tripura. The matter has also triggered concerns over whether candidates holding such certificates may have used them for teacher recruitment examinations in the state.

The Chief Minister’s statement indicates that the Tripura government is likely to examine the matter closely, including the authenticity of educational certificates submitted by candidates and serving teachers.

If any certificate is found to have been obtained fraudulently or from an institution not authorised to issue the qualification, appropriate action will be taken according to law, the Chief Minister indicated.
