Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the CPI(M), alleging that the party had failed to adequately protect the rights and interests of Tripura’s tribal communities during its years in power.

In a Facebook Live session, Pradyot accused the CPI(M) of using the difficulties faced by tribal people for political purposes and appealed to the public not to place their trust in the party.

At the same time, he called for unity among different communities in Tripura and said he wanted to see a peaceful and developed state where people could move forward together.

“I want a good Tripura where everyone can live together without conflict and where the next generation can move forward together. If we want such a Tripura, we must apologise to each other and then move ahead,” he said.

Pradyot said his efforts to raise the voice of tribal communities and people who had previously lacked representation remained one of the biggest achievements of his life.

He also spoke about the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, saying Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha had announced that the agreement would be implemented within the next month.

Rejecting allegations that Tipra Motha had compromised its position, Pradyot said electoral gains were meaningless if they did not translate into tangible benefits for the Tiprasa community.

He said he had kept his personal and political ambitions secondary to the interests of the community.

“The party may suffer, but if the community benefits, that is more important. For me, my people are bigger than my party,” he said.

Pradyot further stated that Tipra Motha would reconsider its political course if the Tiprasa Accord was not implemented. He said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had given an assurance regarding the accord and expressed confidence that it would be implemented.

Targeting the CPI(M), he alleged that the party had failed to secure adequate constitutional and political rights for tribal people.

“Don’t trust the CPI(M). I also want to urge people not to trust Congress. When bills related to the TTAADC were passed in Parliament, both CPI(M) MPs were absent. They want to do politics by keeping tribal people poor and using their problems for political purposes,” he alleged.

Pradyot also acknowledged the role of previous governments in addressing tribal-related issues. He pointed out that the Bru Accord was resolved during Amit Shah’s tenure as Union Home Minister, while the TNV Accord was signed during the tenure of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

“We may not have won 100 per cent, but yes, we will win,” he said.
