A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is expected to visit Tripura next week to hold detailed consultations on the fast-track implementation of the Tripartite Agreement, following a recent meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma.

According to sources, the proposed visit is aimed at taking forward the decisions reached during the high-level meeting and expediting the implementation process of the agreement. The MHA delegation is likely to hold discussions with the state government, representatives of TIPRA Motha and other relevant stakeholders.

The Tripartite Agreement, signed between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura and the Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) in March 2024, seeks to address various issues concerning the indigenous people of Tripura, including their political, economic, social, cultural and constitutional rights.

The upcoming consultations are expected to focus on identifying pending issues, reviewing the progress made so far and working out a concrete roadmap for speedy implementation of the commitments under the agreement.

The development comes amid renewed efforts to ensure that the provisions of the agreement are translated into concrete measures on the ground. The visit of the MHA delegation is being viewed as an important step towards accelerating the process and resolving outstanding issues through discussions among the stakeholders.
