Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has accused the Opposition of pursuing politics aimed at misleading and confusing the people, alleging that it lacks a clear understanding of constructive politics and public welfare.

Dr. Saha made the remarks while addressing a large public meeting organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 4-Barjala Mandal.

Referring to the upcoming Village Committee elections, the Chief Minister said the BJP would contest the polls as part of the NDA alliance. He alleged that attempts were being made to create divisions among people for political gain.

Recalling the political history of Tripura, Dr. Saha said the CPI(M) had ruled the state for 35 years after coming to power in 1978. He alleged that the people of Tripura had experienced a difficult period during that time and asserted that the people would not accept the CPI(M) again.

“Some people are still trying to revive the politics of the past and are hatching conspiracies in different ways. But the people will not accept them,” Dr. Saha said.

He also criticised the Congress-CPI(M) alliance, alleging that both parties were primarily interested in capturing political power.

“The Congress has now entered into an alliance with the CPI(M). Their only objective is to capture the chair and power. We have seen their political contradictions in the past, including instances where CPI(M) flags were seen coming out of Congress offices and vice versa,” he said.

Highlighting the BJP’s electoral performance, Dr. Saha said the party’s influence was growing across the country. He said that after the Village Committee elections, elections to local bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation and Nagar Panchayats, would also be held.

“We won all 20 seats last time, and we are confident of repeating that performance,” he said.

The Chief Minister stressed that political parties should work for the welfare of the people rather than rely on muscle power.

“People want leaders whom they can trust and believe in. Politics cannot be done through muscle power. We have to work for the people,” he said.

Dr. Saha also highlighted various welfare initiatives of the government, including drinking water supply, housing, free food and LPG connections, and questioned the Opposition’s attempt to politicise such issues.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the country’s development, saying that the Prime Minister remains focused on public welfare and economic growth.

“We are fortunate to have a guardian like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who thinks about the people and the development of the country. India’s economy has grown significantly, and the country is now the world’s fourth-largest economy,” Dr. Saha said.

He added that the Tripura government was also continuing its efforts to accelerate development and improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
