“Citizens must come forward to protect the environment in every city, town and village,” said Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma while extending greetings on the occasion of World Environment Day.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrations were held across the state in line with global observance, featuring various programmes and awareness initiatives. As part of the events, the State Pollution Control Board organised a morning rally aimed at spreading awareness about environmental protection among citizens.
The rally was attended by Minister Animesh Debbarma, who highlighted that the primary objective of the procession was to sensitize people about environmental issues.
He emphasized that protecting the environment requires collective effort and urged everyone to take responsibility for preserving nature.
He further stated that afforestation is essential to maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment.
The Additional Secretary of the Environment Department, Chaitanya Murthy, along with other officials, also participated in the programme. Representatives from various NGOs, school students, and environmental workers from across the state joined the rally in large numbers.
The procession began in front of the Sukanta Academy and proceeded through several major roads of the city, spreading awareness about environmental conservation along the route.
This year’s World Environment Day theme is: “Nature inspires us to act for climate and our future.”
