A group of job seekers staged a protest on Friday outside the Chief Minister’s official residence in Tripura, demanding action over long-pending recruitment for Fire Service posts such as Fireman and Diver.
The candidates said the recruitment examination for these positions was held in 2022. However, they alleged that in 2025 the state government cancelled the ongoing process through an official notification and decided to initiate a fresh selection procedure that would include interviews.
According to the protesters, despite this announcement, there has been no visible progress even as 2026 is underway. They claimed the entire recruitment exercise has remained unresolved for nearly four years, leaving aspirants in continued uncertainty.
In the afternoon, the group attempted to march towards the residence of Chief Minister Manik Saha, but police stopped them en route. The protesters then held a sit-in demonstration and briefly disrupted traffic by blocking the road. Several individuals were later detained by police.
The aspirants expressed deep frustration over repeated delays, saying the prolonged process has put their careers at risk, with many nearing or exceeding the upper age limit for government jobs.
They demanded that the recruitment process be completed without further delay and called for transparency and timely action from the authorities. As of now, officials have not issued a detailed response regarding either the protest or the current status of the recruitment drive.
