Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today directed officials to complete all ongoing infrastructure projects within the scheduled timeline while ensuring high construction and service standards.

He also emphasized expanding solar energy generation and usage across Agartala and other urban areas of Tripura.

The directives were issued during a high-level review meeting of the Power, Drinking Water and Sanitation Departments held at the TIFT Conference Hall. The meeting focused on development projects under the Agartala Municipal Corporation and other urban local bodies.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to identify areas prone to anti-social activities and install solar-powered high mast lights to strengthen public safety and improve night-time security.

The meeting was attended by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Secretary Abhishek Singh, and senior officials from the concerned departments.

Officials of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited informed the meeting that, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank, 27 new 33 kV substations and 11 kV ring main units have been installed between 2023 and March 2026. The meeting was informed that installation of 1.2 lakh smart meters in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area and 30,000 smart meters in the Mohanpur Municipal Council area is progressing under ADB-funded schemes, with nearly 70 percent of the work completed. Additionally, around 1.8 lakh smart meters are being installed in various urban areas under the RDSS scheme.

Officials further stated that solar panels have been installed at the offices of District Magistrates in all eight districts under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that 2,845 solar units have already been installed in urban areas under the scheme, with subsidies worth Rs 53.61 crore distributed so far. He added that the state government aims to install solar panels in nearly 1.5 lakh urban households.

Representatives of Tripura Power Transmission Limited informed the meeting that steps are being taken under the SASCI scheme to ensure uninterrupted power supply through live-line maintenance technology and drone-based monitoring systems. Measures are also underway to safeguard transformers and transmission lines from lightning strikes.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to study the feasibility of introducing solar-powered alternative electricity arrangements in Matabari.
