Tensions were reported at the Nagarjala Bus Stand in Agartala following allegations of violence during a protest organized by a workers’ union on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the union began a demonstration around 8 a.m. by suspending bus services, citing issues such as alleged extortion, lack of basic facilities including drinking water, and irregular parking fee collection at the transport hub.

The protest allegedly escalated when a group confronted the demonstrators, leading to a clash in which several individuals were injured. Among those injured was a union leader identified as Liton Kar, who was later admitted to a hospital along with other workers.

Protesters alleged that individuals linked to a political youth organization were involved in the attack and claimed that the incident occurred in the presence of police personnel. They also accused local authorities of long-standing irregularities in the management of the bus stand.

Liton Kar further alleged that unauthorized parking fees were being collected and that workers faced intimidation when raising concerns. These allegations have not been independently verified.

Local councillor Abhijit Mallick rejected the accusations, describing the protest leader as a habitual troublemaker and claiming that the demonstration disrupted public transport operations.

The incident took place within the 8 Town Bordowali area of Agartala, a politically sensitive constituency.

Police have not yet confirmed any arrests, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
