Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that blood donation is the best donation in the world. There is no alternative to blood, and people must move forward with the goal that not a single life should be lost prematurely due to a lack of blood.

He said that the current government is working with equal importance on the development of the health sector along with the development of every sector.

Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha said this while inaugurating a blood donation camp organized on the occasion of International Nurses Day at the Agartala Government Dental College Auditorium today.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha said, “Blood reminds us of the highest religion of humanity. Blood has no caste, religion, or distinction. Blood teaches us that we are all one and bound by the bond of humanity. Organizing this blood donation camp as part of Florence Nightingale’s birthday and International Nurses Day is a very commendable initiative.”

The Chief Minister said that the role of nurses in the medical field is very important.

“The reputation of the hospital and the well-being of patients largely depend on the dedication and responsibility of nurses. Not everyone gets the opportunity to serve people, but nurses and health workers perform this great duty every day. Therefore, their work is not just a profession; it is also a human commitment,” said Dr. Saha.

He advised doctors, nurses, and health workers to be sincere and sensitive toward patients and their families.

Dr. Saha also said that the common man is getting the benefits of improved health services through public welfare schemes like the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana and the Prime Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana, and that the child mortality rate in the state has also reduced to a great extent.

He said that people are realizing the development brought by the double-engine government. Along with the development of every sector, the current government is working with equal importance on the development of the health sector.

“The government is also taking continuous initiatives for the infrastructural development of various hospitals in the state, including AGMC and IGM, expansion of modern medical systems, and development of health education,” he said.

Regarding the importance of voluntary blood donation, the Chief Minister also said that there is no alternative to blood donation. The government is vigilant in meeting the demand for blood in the state’s blood banks.

“The amount of blood collected has increased significantly this year compared to last year. So far, 44,309 units of blood have been collected in the state in 2025–26. As per the rules, a state needs to have a blood stock of about 1 percent of its population. However, it is also very important to maintain a balance between blood demand and supply. The State Blood Transfusion Board is closely monitoring these issues regularly,” he said.
