The Tripura Legislative Assembly witnessed the presentation of a deficit budget on the second day of its ongoing budget session, as Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy placed the state budget of Rs 34,212 crore for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to the finance minister, the budget carries a deficit of Rs 240.72 crore. While presenting the financial statement, Singha Roy highlighted the government’s focus on development-oriented spending and infrastructure growth.
He informed the House that the capital expenditure has been fixed at ₹8,945.92 crore, which is 13.19 percent higher than the budget estimate of the previous fiscal year 2025–26. The increased allocation is aimed at strengthening infrastructure, boosting economic activities and supporting long-term development projects across the state.
The finance minister began his budget speech at 11:15 am in the Assembly.
Addressing the members during his speech, Singha Roy called for collective efforts towards the development of the state. He said the government is committed to transforming Tripura into a developed state with greater opportunities and prosperity for its people.
"Let us all commit ourselves and work together to build a stronger, more prosperous and developed Tripura. Let us all be determined to take our state to the pinnacle of development so that it becomes a ‘Developed Tripura’ full of hopes, aspirations, opportunities and immense potential,” he said.
The budget outlines the government’s development priorities while balancing fiscal discipline and public welfare initiatives. Discussions on the budget are expected to continue in the Assembly in the coming days.
