Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Wednesday issued a series of directives aimed at strengthening law enforcement, improving public services and enhancing administrative efficiency across Tripura during a review meeting of the Task Monitoring System held via video conference from the State Secretariat.
Taking a firm stand against drug abuse and criminal activities, the Chief Minister said the government would adopt a zero-tolerance approach and warned that there should be no laxity in tackling the growing menace. He instructed officials to enhance coordination among all departments and said special task forces could be constituted whenever necessary to intensify anti-drug and anti-crime operations.
Dr. Saha directed the police to increase surveillance and patrolling, particularly around schools, colleges and other vulnerable locations. He also asked officials to identify crime-prone areas and ensure constant monitoring through CCTV cameras. Stressing the need to improve public safety around GB Hospital, he instructed the administration to deploy additional police personnel and maintain round-the-clock vigilance in the area.
Reviewing the tourism sector, the Chief Minister said maintaining cleanliness at tourist destinations is essential for attracting visitors and strengthening Tripura's tourism industry. He instructed district administrations and the concerned departments to carry out regular inspections to ensure that popular tourist sites, including Chabimura, Unakoti, Dumbur and Neermahal, remain clean, well-maintained and visitor-friendly.
The Chief Minister also reviewed preparations for the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, scheduled from August 9 to 17, along with programmes commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. He directed all District Magistrates to ensure smooth implementation of the celebrations and informed that the state-level programme would be held at Ujjayanta Palace on August 11.
Expressing satisfaction over the government's initiatives in the education sector, Dr. Saha asked district administrations to intensify inspections of government schools to monitor teaching standards, infrastructure, cleanliness and overall academic environment. He made it clear that negligence in official responsibilities would not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the status of road connectivity, power supply and drinking water services and instructed departments to resolve public grievances without delay through better coordination. He sought updates on the functioning of district hospitals, social welfare homes, hostels, Anganwadi centres, child immunisation programmes, the Public Distribution System and veterinary health centres.
Noting that nearly 86 per cent of the work under the Jal Jeevan Mission has been completed, Dr. Saha directed officials to expedite the remaining projects, particularly in water-scarce areas such as Khowai district. He also reviewed the progress of the commissioning of Kailashahar Airport.
Calling for a more citizen-friendly administration, the Chief Minister urged officials to remain accessible to the public and discharge their duties with sensitivity, courtesy and accountability. He asked District Magistrates to strengthen coordination among departments and ensure effective monitoring of development and welfare programmes.
The meeting began with a presentation by Secretary to the Chief Minister and Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kiran Gitte, who highlighted the functioning and achievements of the Task Monitoring System through a visual presentation. Senior officials from various departments attended the meeting, while District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police and other officers from all eight districts participated virtually.
