The Tripura Legislative Assembly’s Select Committee has initiated preliminary deliberations on the proposed Tripura Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Fourteenth Amendment) Bill, 2026, as the state government looks to strengthen the existing land administration framework and address key legal and administrative issues.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury attended the preparatory meeting of the committee on Tuesday, along with Finance Minister Pranjit Singha Roy and senior officials of the state government.
Sharing details of the meeting, Chowdhury said discussions centred on the objectives, scope and significant provisions of the proposed amendment. The members exchanged views on various aspects of the legislation, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive examination of the Bill.
The proposed legislation is intended to bring improvements to Tripura's land revenue and land reforms administration, while reviewing and addressing relevant legal provisions to make the existing system more effective and responsive.
The preliminary meeting assumes significance as the Select Committee prepares to undertake a detailed assessment of the proposed amendments and their potential implications for land administration in the state.
Chowdhury stressed the need for careful scrutiny and meaningful deliberations before arriving at any legislative conclusions. He maintained that the interests of the people must remain at the centre of every policy and legislative initiative, reaffirming the government's commitment to transparent governance, administrative efficiency and the state's continued development.
