Attack on BSF Personnel Unacceptable, Says Tripura CM; Directs Authorities to Take Strict Action

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has strongly condemned the alleged assault on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Ashabari in Sepahijala district, asserting that any attack on security forces will not be tolerated. He has directed the concerned authorities to take immediate and stringent action against those involved in the incident.

Terming the attack a serious matter, the Chief Minister said that security personnel perform their duties under challenging circumstances to safeguard the nation and maintain law and order. Any attempt to intimidate or obstruct them in the discharge of their duties must be dealt with firmly under the provisions of law.

Dr. Saha also stressed that those responsible for the incident must be brought to justice without delay, reiterating the government's commitment to protecting the dignity and security of personnel serving the nation.

Meanwhile, a BSF official, speaking to India Today, said the incident took place when a team of BSF personnel reached the area following specific intelligence inputs regarding suspected smuggling activities.

According to the official, the personnel were suddenly attacked by a group of villagers during the operation. Following the incident, the BSF lodged a complaint at Kalamchoura Police Station, after which an FIR was registered.

The cases reportedly include charges of attempted murder of BSF personnel, snatching of service weapons and obstructing government officials from performing their lawful duties.

The BSF official further informed that the force had identified the persons allegedly involved in the attack. However, they were absconding at the time of the statement.

Describing the accused as suspected smugglers and their associates, the official asserted that the BSF would pursue the matter firmly and ensure that those responsible face appropriate legal action.

The incident has once again highlighted the challenges faced by security forces while carrying out anti-smuggling operations in border areas.
