The Tripura Pradesh Congress has announced a week-long statewide protest programme from August 5, raising allegations of corruption in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and the state government. The party has demanded that the government issue a white paper revealing details of all major expenditures and utilisation of public funds.
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan on Monday, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty said the party would organise three-hour sit-in protests and mass demonstrations across the state, including district headquarters, subdivision headquarters, and other important public places.
Chakraborty alleged that large-scale irregularities have taken place in the functioning of the ADC and the state administration, and questioned the government’s accountability over the use of public money.
“The government must inform the people about how much money has been spent, where it has been spent, and for what purpose. A white paper is necessary to ensure transparency,” he said.
He added that if the government fails to provide the details, the Congress will prepare a chargesheet against the ruling administration, highlighting what it termed as cases of corruption and mismanagement.
“The chargesheet will be placed before the people, and the government will have to face questions over these allegations,” Chakraborty stated.
The Congress leader further said the party would continue to intensify its movement across Tripura on issues of transparency, accountability, and protection of public interest.
