In a significant move aimed at bolstering internal security and maintaining law and order, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday approved the formation of a Special Task Force (STF) under the State Police.

The newly constituted STF will function as a dedicated unit to formulate and execute intelligence-driven operations against organized crime, extremism, fundamentalism, cross-border smuggling, drug trafficking and other disruptive activities. Officials said the move marks a strategic shift toward proactive policing and swift enforcement.

According to senior government sources, the STF will play a crucial role in investigating terror-related incidents, expediting the trial process of such cases, and ensuring strong legal action against offenders.

The task force is also expected to strengthen surveillance and operations in inter-district, inter-state, and international border zones where criminal networks are often active.

Reiterating his government’s unwavering commitment to public safety, Chief Minister Dr. Saha stated that maintaining peace and law and order remains a top priority.

“This Special Task Force will serve as a force multiplier in our fight against threats to internal security. The safety and security of every citizen is our foremost concern,” he said.

The Tripura Police, entrusted with the responsibility of spearheading this initiative, is expected to work in close coordination with national intelligence and enforcement agencies to meet emerging security challenges.

The formation of the STF is widely seen as a forward-looking step that not only aims to curb growing security threats but also seeks to instill a sense of assurance among the public about the government's seriousness and preparedness in protecting their lives and property.
