In a major step toward ensuring a comprehensive population count, the State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCC) convened a high-level meeting today at the Tripura Secretariat to discuss the upcoming two-stage census exercise, aligned with the national census program.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and attended by senior officials including Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Panchayat Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, Higher Education Secretary Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary and Director of Social Welfare Tapan Kumar Das, and Director of Information and Cultural Affairs Bimbisar Bhattacharya, among other key departmental officers.
In his opening remarks, L.T. Darlong, Secretary of the Planning and Statistics Department and Nodal Officer for the state census, emphasized the crucial role of the census in governance and planning, and outlined the detailed work schedule.
Ratan Biswas, Director of the Census Department, presented a comprehensive overview of the census program. He explained that the exercise will be conducted in two stages: the first stage will focus on housing enumeration and preparation of house lists, while the second stage will cover population enumeration.
The census schedule has been announced as follows:
Self-enumeration: 17th July – 31st July 2026
Phase 1 – Housing Enumeration & House List Preparation: 1st August – 30th August 2026
Phase 2 – Population Enumeration: 9th February – 28th February 2027
Addressing the officials, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha underlined the critical importance of conducting the census with precision and diligence. He urged all officers to ensure timely completion of preparations and assured full support from the state administration to facilitate the smooth execution of this vital exercise.
District Collectors and Additional District Collectors from various districts participated virtually, providing updates on their respective district-level arrangements and readiness.
The meeting reflected Tripura’s proactive approach to executing a seamless census, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to accurate data collection, which forms the backbone of planning and development in the state.
