A high-level delegation from the TIPRA Motha Party, led by its founder and chairman Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma on Thursday met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President J.P. Nadda in New Delhi, pressing for the immediate implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll and the TIPRASA Accord for the indigenous people of Tripura.
Party sources said the delegation highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive revision of the electoral roll in the state, citing demographic shifts and concerns over the protection of indigenous rights.
They also urged the central leadership to expedite the implementation of the TIPRASA Accord, which had been assured by the Government of India prior to the Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting also addressed issues related to national security, particularly the prevailing situation in neighbouring Bangladesh and the increasing incidents of atrocities against minority communities there. The TIPRA Motha leaders emphasized that such developments directly impact Tripura, a border state, and could have wider national implications.
Among those present in the meeting were Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, Tripura East MP Kriti Devi Debbarman, Chief Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Purna Chandra Jamatia, Minister of State Birshaketu Debbarma, along with several MLAs and MDCs from the TIPRA Motha Party.
Earlier, the party had also held a meeting with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision.
