The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears poised to make a clean sweep in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, as the regional Tipra Motha Party faces erosion of its support base.
BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma stated on Tuesday that the Tipra Motha Party has lost ground, signaling a potential consolidation of tribal votes under the BJP banner.
The announcement came as 275 voters from 55 families, led by Gurupada Debbarma, Central Observer of the Tipra Motha Party, formally joined the BJP. According to Bipin Debbarma, these families cited a perceived lack of development under Tipra Motha’s five-year rule, contrasting it with the BJP’s development agenda under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
“This shift reflects the public’s growing confidence in the BJP’s governance model. Tipra Motha has failed to deliver, and people are now looking to the BJP for leadership and development,” Bipin Debbarma said.
The BJP has also clarified that no formal alliance discussions with Tipra Motha are underway, emphasizing the party’s readiness to contest all 28 seats in the council. The General Secretary projected confidence that the electorate will reward the BJP’s development record, dismissing claims by Tipra Motha that the BJP would fail to secure a single seat.
Political analysts view this development as a critical moment in Tripura’s tribal politics. Tipra Motha’s loss of key supporters may signal a broader shift in tribal voter alignment, potentially reshaping the council’s political landscape.
Under the leadership of BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya, the party is positioning itself as the central force for tribal welfare and governance, banking on both grassroots mobilization and its narrative of development over the past five years.
As the TTAADC elections approach, the BJP’s momentum and Tipra Motha’s weakening influence set the stage for a high-stakes electoral contest in Tripura’s tribal regions.
