Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced today that the state government is planning to establish a Women’s University to empower women in the state.
He also stated that efforts are underway to reduce the Dearness Allowance (DA) gap between state and central government employees.
Dr. Saha made these announcements while addressing the 64th Teachers’ Day 2025 programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
“You may explore other professions for monetary reasons, but teachers have chosen this path out of passion and responsibility. By taking charge of shaping the future generation, teachers perform a noble duty. They are like the roots of a tree, nurturing the branches, fruits, and flowers—our students. A strong foundation is essential for national progress, and teachers build this foundation through their dedication and sacrifice,” Dr. Saha said.
He emphasized that teachers continuously strive to bring something new to the classroom.
“In teaching, mental, physical, and emotional effort is crucial. Teachers are innovators who impart knowledge and values, shaping students’ lives. They are the backbone of our nation, and society relies on them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s National Education Policy has been implemented in Tripura, and our government is introducing new reforms while recruiting the best teachers through a transparent process,” he added.
As Education Minister, Dr. Saha highlighted the government’s recent initiatives: three new government colleges have been opened, and under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana, female students have been provided scooters to encourage higher education.
“We are committed to the progress of girls. Fees for female students in government colleges have been waived, and a Women’s University is in the pipeline to further empower them. Many universities have shown interest in establishing campuses here, as peace now prevails in the state. We aim to transform Tripura into an education hub. MBBS seats have been increased, and Dental and Nursing colleges have also been established,” he said.
Addressing the issue of DA, Dr. Saha noted, “Earlier, people had to join protests to demand DA and DR. We have now given 29%, bringing total DA and DR to 32%. We will continue our efforts to reduce the gap with the central government.”
