Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today chaired a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat, directing officials to put in place a modern, well-coordinated traffic management system in Agartala ahead of the Durga Puja festivities.
Reviewing the progress of works under the Smart City Project and the proposed flyover, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for responsible and timely action from departments to ensure hassle-free traffic movement.
He instructed officials to strictly prohibit loading and unloading of goods on busy roads during peak hours, prevent long-term parking on main roads, and ensure smooth movement of vehicles in narrow city lanes. “Public cooperation is essential. People should be made aware of the rules and dealt with politely,” the Chief Minister said.
To ease congestion, he also suggested exploring the introduction of hydraulic parking systems at strategic points. While reviewing the construction of paved drains across the city, he directed officials to ensure that ongoing work does not inconvenience the public during the festive season.
Traffic SP Kanta Jangir presented a detailed report on the current traffic scenario and suggested measures for improvement. Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha highlighted the importance of a coordinated traffic and urban development plan.
The meeting was attended by DGP Anurag, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, Tourism Secretary U. K. Chakma, Smart City Limited CEO Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, AMC CEO Dilip Kumar Chakma, West District SP Namit Pathak, along with other senior officials.
