Acting on a tip-off, Tripura Police of Ambassa police seized a huge consignment of dried ganja during a vehicle search drive at Bet Bagan Naka point under Ambassa police station on Sunday morning.
According to police, a Maruti Swift bearing registration number TR 01 CF 0285 was intercepted, and during inspection, 215 kg of dried ganja packed in 21 packets was recovered.
The seized contraband is estimated to be worth over Rs 20 lakh in the black market.
On receiving information about the recovery, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirupam Dutta, Ambassa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nandan Das, other police personnel, and a forensic team rushed to the spot.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Ajay Das, has been arrested. The vehicle was traveling from Agartala towards Dharmanagar.
Speaking on the incident, SDPO Nirupam Dutta said that strict operations against illegal narcotics will continue in the days ahead.
