A tense situation prevailed along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Kailashahar on Sunday afternoon after a group of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly entered Indian territory and attacked locals and border guards with bricks, stones, and glass bottles.

According to reports, around 10–12 Bangladeshi citizens crossed the border through the Manu River while collecting floating wood and entered the area near the crematorium under Kailashahar municipality, where locals had gathered for a last rites ceremony.

When residents and crematorium volunteers noticed the intrusion, they stopped the group and alerted the Border Security Force (BSF). As BSF jawans ordered the intruders to return, they allegedly began pelting stones, bricks, and bottles at both the locals and the border guards, creating panic in the area.

Senior BSF officers rushed to the spot, and with the intervention of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local administration, the situation was eventually brought under control.

The incident has caused widespread concern among residents, who allege that Bangladeshi nationals frequently cross into Indian territory under the pretext of fishing or collecting firewood. Locals have demanded stricter surveillance to prevent such cross-border incidents, which they say raise serious questions about security along the international border.
