Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Deepak Majumdar today assured that the construction of drains and roads in the city will be completed before the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
The ongoing project aims to convert the city’s open sewers into covered drains, helping to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season. On Friday, Mayor Majumdar inspected the progress of the drain construction from Battala Bazar to Dashamighat.
“Our main goal is to make Agartala a waterlogging-free city. The Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department, and Smart City Mission are working together to implement this project efficiently,” the Mayor said.
He added that the construction of covered drains will allow water to flow out quickly during heavy rains. Emphasizing the importance of the work ahead of the festival, the Mayor said, “During Sharadiya Durgotsav, thousands of people travel to Dashamighat Bisarjan Ghat to immerse idols. Therefore, orders have been given to complete the road and drain work promptly before the festival.”
Officials from the concerned departments and local councilors accompanied the Mayor during the inspection.
He also assured that AMC plans to adopt more modern technology in the future to permanently address the city’s waterlogging issues.
