The Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW) of Jampui Hills in Tripura’s North District has formally approached the Vanghmun Police Station, urging immediate action to address rising concerns over tourist-related misconduct in the region.

The appeal comes in the wake of several incidents of vandalism by unidentified individuals across Jampui Hills, the state’s highest hill range renowned for its scenic beauty, temperate climate, and cultural richness. The hills are a popular destination for trekking, sunrise and sunset viewing, paragliding, and experiencing the traditions of the Lushai and Mizo communities.

In its memorandum, MCYW highlighted a recent surge in activities that threaten the social fabric, safety, and cultural values of local communities. Specific cases cited included the deliberate damage to official signboards and posters belonging to MCYW and JSBMP near Hmunpui village, as well as at the entrance to the paragliding site at Tlaksih. The youth wing termed these acts as unacceptable and a direct affront to community institutions and local norms.

MCYW also raised concerns about tourists openly consuming alcohol and other intoxicants in public spaces, labeling such behavior as inconsistent with the cultural ethos of Jampui Hills and a potential risk to public safety, particularly for women and children. The organization called for heightened patrolling and strict enforcement of regulations.

To strengthen monitoring, MCYW requested that authorities maintain a record of all tourist vehicles entering the region, including vehicle numbers, drivers’ names, and valid contact details. Additionally, the memorandum appealed for restrictions on the use of loudspeakers in village areas, noting that excessive noise disrupts local peace and harmony.

The memorandum was signed by Lalduhsanga Thangluah, President, and Vanrokima Royte, General Secretary of MCYW. The organization expressed confidence that the Vanghmun Police would respond urgently to safeguard the dignity, safety, and social harmony of Jampui Hills residents.
