Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to virtually inaugurate and lay the foundation for 179 projects under the Rural Development Department and the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, with a total investment of Rs 546.79 crore, tomorrow.

Speaking at a press conference at Swami Vivekananda Maidan today, Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman said the program will see participation from Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Members of Parliament, state cabinet ministers, MLAs, and representatives from all three tiers of Panchayats, with Minister Barman presiding over the event.

Describing the day as historic for Tripura, Minister Barman highlighted the importance of the Vikashit Bharat-G Ram G Act 2025, introduced in this year’s budget by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. According to him, the act lays down a roadmap for India’s development and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, aiming to lift 25 crore people above the poverty line.

“The new act guarantees 125 days of rural employment, expanding on the earlier provisions of MGNREGA, which offered only 100 days,” Minister Barman said. He added that this will accelerate socio-economic growth in rural areas. The act addresses previous challenges in MGNREGA, such as implementation gaps, corruption in labor allocation, and inefficiencies in job card management.

Under the VB-G Ram G Act 2025, project allocation will now be managed through Gram Sabhas instead of Panchayats, enhancing transparency and accountability. The law covers a wide range of rural development initiatives, including:

  • Construction and renovation of Anganwadi centers

  • Creation of permanent assets under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission

  • Drinking water projects

  • Road construction and maintenance

Minister Barman expressed optimism that the new law will usher in a transformed Tripura, in line with the vision of a developed India, and called for the active support of the people.

The press conference also included remarks from Abhishek Singh, Secretary of the Rural Development Department, and Kuntal Das.
