The eighth session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly will be held for two days, beginning September 19 and concluding on September 23, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Monday.

Briefing after the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, Nath said Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu has summoned the session. As Speaker Biswabandhu Sen is unwell, Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul will preside over the proceedings.

The BAC meeting, chaired by Paul, was attended by representatives of BJP, CPIM and Tipra Motha Party, though Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury was absent due to personal reasons.

“The Assembly will sit on September 19 and 23. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Tripura on September 22, there will be no House sitting that day. The decision was taken unanimously in the BAC meeting,” Nath informed.

He added that the session was kept short due to the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, the state’s biggest celebration.

During the session, four bills will be tabled — the Tripura State Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, Tripura Jana Biswas (Amendment) Provision Bill, The Factories Bill, and Tripura Shops and Establishments (Seventh Amendment) Bill.

On September 19, the House will take up Question Hour and place the bills, while September 23 will see discussions on the bills as well as three Private Members’ Resolutions — introduced by BJP MLAs Dipak Majumder and Ram Pada Jamatia, and a CPIM legislator, selected through balloting.

“We want to ensure fruitful discussions for the betterment of the people,” Nath said.
