A youth from Tripura, Swapnajit Choudhury, has been stranded in Nepal after traveling there to attend a workshop. A resident of Old Agartala, Swapnajit is the son of Khokan Choudhury. His family has been deeply worried since he has not been able to return home.
According to sources, Swapnajit, who is pursuing a PhD at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya in Kolkata, traveled to Nepal on September 4 to attend a seminar from his university. The workshop concluded on September 8, when he was awarded a certificate. He was scheduled to return to Kolkata the next day.
However, due to the volatile situation that erupted in Nepal on September 8, Swapnajit, along with 40 other Indian students, has been stranded. Connectivity issues prevented his father from contacting him for several days, adding to the family’s anxiety.
On Thursday afternoon, Swapnajit’s mother was finally able to speak to him over the phone. During the emotional conversation, she broke down in tears while hearing about the grim situation. Swapnajit informed her that though the conditions outside were dangerous, he and three other students were safe inside their hotel. They have decided to move only if all four can leave together.
The students are now looking to the Indian government for evacuation and support. Swapnajit’s mother advised him to stick to vegetarian food, avoid meat and fish, and keep dry food stored as a precaution.
His parents remain anxious, praying only for their son’s safe return home.
