In response to reports of movement by Bangladesh-based armed groups, including the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), along parts of the international border in Gomati district, the district administration has imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and tightened security measures.
The order, issued by Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, cites reliable information from the Commandant of the 159 Battalion, BSF Bagma, expressing concerns over potential infiltration by militants, Bangladesh nationals, Rohingyas, and members of other militant organizations along the border stretch from BOP Labokant Para to BOP Chaplin Chera in Karbook Sub-Division. The intent of such movement, the report stated, could include criminal activities, smuggling, and disturbance of public order.
“I am satisfied that there are sufficient grounds to impose restrictions under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023, for ensuring peace and tranquillity by preventing the designs of anti-national elements and activities of associations inimical to the safety and security of the general public,” the order said.
The restrictions, effective from December 3, 2025, to February 28, 2026, include:
Prohibition on assembly of more than four persons between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM without valid permission from local authorities.
Restriction on movement of the general public during the same period without written authorization from the SDM, Karbook.
Ban on carrying lathis, firearms, or any weapons, except by police, CRPF, BSF, or other security personnel on duty.
People residing within 300 metres of the border are exempted from these restrictions.
In addition, the district administration has alerted all social organizations, local community leaders, and residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately. The authorities have urged cooperation from all sections of society to ensure safety and maintain peace along the sensitive border region.
