Amarpur police achieved a major breakthrough in an anti-drug operation by arresting a drug peddler with a large consignment of contraband. Acting on a tip-off from a confidential source, the police recovered 1,440 Yaba tablets and took one person into custody.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirman Das said that the Amarpur Birganj Police Station received reliable information that a group was transporting a large quantity of narcotic substances from the Udaipur side towards Amarpur. Based on this intelligence, the police swiftly planned and launched an operation.

Under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Sukramani Debbarma, a police team from Birganj Police Station intensified surveillance and set up naka checking points at Thakchhara Naka Point and the Birbal Daspara area. After some time, observing suspicious movement, the police detained a person for questioning.

During a personal search, the police recovered a total of 1,440 Yaba tablets from the suspect. Upon interrogation, the detained individual was identified as Palash Ghosh, a resident of the Amarpur sub-division. The seized Yaba tablets were confiscated.

Police sources said that the accused is being interrogated to gather information about other members involved in the drug trafficking network. Investigations are underway to ascertain whether others are linked to the racket, the source of the seized drugs, and their intended destination.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the accused will be produced before the court. Police have assured that anti-drug operations will be further intensified in Amarpur and surrounding areas to curb the menace of drug trafficking.
