The Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress today staged a protest condemning the alleged brutal assault of a student from Tripura who had gone to study in Gurugram, Haryana.

The protesters gathered in front of the Congress Bhavan and burned an effigy of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding immediate action in the case.

Addressing the media, Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress President Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of violence against women across the country. She stated that women are facing insecurity in Delhi and several other states, and described the alleged assault on the Tripura student in Gurugram as “shameful” and “a blot on society.”

Chakraborty demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment for those responsible. She alleged that the government has failed to curb the increasing violence against women and criticized what she described as a deteriorating law and order situation.

According to her, repeated incidents of atrocities against women in BJP-ruled states reflect the government’s inability to ensure women’s safety. She further claimed that such heinous crimes are not limited to Gurugram but are occurring across various states, including Tripura.

The Mahila Congress leader called for the strict implementation of laws, speedy trial processes, and accountability from those in positions of responsibility to ensure justice for the victim and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
