Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday criticised Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, alleging his failure to control party workers who were reportedly involved in a recent attack.

Chaudhury claimed that the assault on BJP workers during a Mann Ki Baat programme at Asha Ram Bari in Khowai district on Sunday was carried out by Tipra Motha workers, describing it as an "act of frustration."

According to reports, at least seven BJP karyakartas sustained injuries in the incident. While Pradyot has categorically denied the involvement of his party workers, he pointed fingers at CPI(M), alleging the attack stemmed from a personal dispute involving the BJP Mandal president of the area, who had earlier been with the CPI(M).

Refuting Pradyot’s claims, Chaudhury asserted, “The attack was carried out by Tipra Motha workers. Not a single CPI(M) worker was involved. If former CPI(M) members are now part of Tipra Motha, it is Pradyot’s responsibility to take disciplinary action. Most of his supporters were once with CPI(M).”

Chaudhury, who also serves as the CPI(M) State Secretary, further said, “When CPI(M) was in power, we never disrupted programmes of other political parties. At that time, Pradyot was with the Congress. Did we ever attack him?”

He alleged that the Tipra Motha leadership has failed to instil discipline within its ranks, and blamed rising internal unrest for the recent spate of violent incidents.

“This frustration within his own party is manifesting in attacks — today against the BJP, tomorrow it might be against him. His inability to manage his own followers is becoming apparent. His days are numbered,” Chaudhury added.
