In a bid to ensure consistency and promote a unified identity among students, the Tripura government has announced the implementation of a standardized school uniform policy across all government schools in the state.
The directive, which applies to students from Classes I to XII, mandates that schools under the same category will follow a common uniform. Accordingly, all Vidyajyoti Schools will adopt one standard uniform, all PM-SHRI Schools will follow another, and all other government schools will adopt a third common uniform design.
However, four schools have been exempted from the policy—Shishu Bihar H.S. School, Sukhamoy H.S. School, and Umakanta Academy in West Tripura District, along with PM SHRI Radha Kishore Institution in Unakoti District. The government clarified that the directive would not be applicable to these institutions.
For the ongoing academic year, schools will be allowed to continue with their existing uniforms alongside the new ones to allow a smooth transition. From the next academic session, however, strict adherence to the standardized dress code will be mandatory across all government schools, except the exempted ones.
The Education Department has directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) to ensure that Principals, Vice-Principals, Headmasters, Headmistresses, Assistant Headmasters, and Teachers-in-Charge of government schools under their jurisdiction adopt the prescribed uniform colour and design without delay.
Meanwhile, under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, centrally provided uniforms for eligible students in Classes I to VIII are already being distributed in accordance with the new policy, and the process is expected to be completed soon.
Officials said the introduction of a common dress code is aimed at reinforcing discipline, promoting equality, and fostering a strong institutional identity among students across the state. The government has instructed DEOs to ensure strict compliance with the directive and submit reports on its implementation status.
