The Tripura Legislative Assembly witnessed high drama on Monday after Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman alleged that a suicide note purportedly written by late DGP Anurag Dhankar had been removed and concealed, triggering protests by Opposition members.

The issue was raised by Roy Barman shortly before the Question Hour on the final day of the Assembly session. Referring to the DGP’s wife, who reportedly arrived in Tripura on Sunday, the Congress MLA claimed that she had sought the original suicide note and stated that she possessed a photograph of it.

“The wife of the deceased DGP arrived yesterday and asked for the suicide note. She said she has a photograph of the note. The suicide note has been removed and hidden,” Roy Barman alleged in the Assembly.

Speaker Rampada Jamatia, however, stopped the Congress MLA from pursuing the matter, pointing out that the Chief Minister had already made statements regarding the DGP’s death on two occasions.

The Speaker urged Roy Barman, a senior member of the House, not to create confusion and asked him to take his seat, citing Assembly rules.

The Speaker’s intervention led to protests from Opposition members. Congress and CPI(M) MLAs entered the well of the House holding placards and raised slogans over the alleged disappearance of the suicide note.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath subsequently intervened and urged the Speaker to allow the Question Hour to continue, assuring that the Opposition could raise the matter after the scheduled proceedings.

The protesting MLAs later returned to their seats, allowing the Assembly proceedings to resume.

The allegation regarding the purported removal or concealment of the suicide note remains a claim made by the Opposition and was not independently established in the Assembly.
