Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Saturday inspected the ongoing construction of a covered drain at Kanai Saha’s Lane on Town Pratapgarh Road No. 3 under Ward No. 32.
During the inspection, the Mayor reviewed the progress of the construction work on the ground and held discussions with the concerned officials and workers regarding various aspects of the project.
Dipak Majumder also interacted with local residents, who apprised him of longstanding waterlogging, drainage-related problems and other difficulties faced by people in the area. The Mayor heard their grievances and assured them that necessary steps would be taken to resolve the issues at the earliest.
The Mayor said Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha had visited the area a few days ago, during which local residents had raised the demand for construction of a covered drain. Following the Chief Minister’s visit, the concerned departments initiated the construction work in the area.
He said waterlogging had been a longstanding problem in several parts of the locality, particularly during the monsoon. The covered drain is being constructed to address the issue and improve the drainage system.
The Mayor also stressed the need to ensure that existing water pipelines and gas connections are not damaged during the construction work.
He further said that several development projects are currently underway across different parts of Agartala. Multiple works have also been undertaken in areas covering the Ramnagar to Bordowali Assembly constituency. Efforts are being made to expedite the projects through coordination with the agencies, contractors and technical personnel involved so that the works can be completed within the stipulated time.
Dipak Majumder also urged local residents to extend their cooperation during the ongoing development works, stating that public cooperation would help ensure that the projects are completed more quickly and smoothly.
