Amtali Police have arrested two alleged notorious thieves accused of being involved in theft and various property-related crimes. The duo were apprehended late Friday night from the Agartala bypass road area along with a vehicle allegedly used in the crimes.

Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee said that a few days ago, police had arrested one or two alleged masterminds involved in property-related offences. During their interrogation, the names of several other persons reportedly surfaced. Acting on the information and based on intelligence inputs, police conducted an operation late Friday night and arrested the two suspects.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rajib Saha, a resident of South Narayanpur, and Pranab Das, a resident of Malyanagar.

According to police, the accused had allegedly been using the vehicle to commit thefts and other property-related offences not only under Amtali Police Station but also in various police station areas across Agartala city. Police said the vehicle was particularly used at night to transport members of the alleged gang from one location to another.

Police further claimed that interrogation of the accused has yielded important information regarding where the stolen goods were stored or sold, how they were allegedly transported, and the involvement of other members in the network. Efforts are currently underway to recover the stolen articles.

Police said the accused would be interrogated further, and efforts would be made to identify and arrest other persons allegedly linked to the gang.

The Amtali OC said regular patrolling is being conducted in the area to prevent property-related crimes, while operations are also being carried out in coordination with neighbouring police stations.

The two accused were scheduled to be produced before a court on Saturday. Police have sought three days of police remand for further interrogation.
