With Durga Puja approaching, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stepped up efforts to complete ongoing infrastructure and civic works across the city before the festival, Mayor Dipak Majumder said on Sunday.

Majumder said the Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and the AMC had set a target of completing the ongoing works ahead of the Puja festivities, when large numbers of people from different parts of Tripura visit the state capital.

“During Durga Puja, people from across the state come to Agartala. Therefore, we are giving priority to resolving various city-related issues so that people can enjoy the festival without facing inconvenience,” the Mayor said.

He said the Public Works Department (PWD) and AMC are jointly working on several projects, including road construction and repair as well as underground cabling works. The civic body is coordinating with the concerned departments to speed up the projects and minimise inconvenience to residents and visitors.

Majumder also highlighted traffic congestion as one of the major challenges during the festive season. He said the AMC would take necessary measures in coordination with other agencies to improve traffic movement and reduce congestion at key locations.

“We will make every effort to complete the ongoing works before Puja. Along with infrastructure development, we will also focus on easing traffic congestion so that people can move around the city smoothly during the festival,” he said.

The Mayor expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by the civic body and government departments would help improve the overall condition of Agartala ahead of Durga Puja.
