A joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and police led to the seizure of around 52 kg of dry ganja in Naluwa Abhoynagar Daspara under Hrishyamukh Block of South Tripura on Sunday, triggering tension in the area.

According to sources, the operation was conducted at around 10 am after security personnel noticed a private vehicle moving suspiciously. The vehicle, bearing registration number TR01AAR0608, was chased and intercepted.

However, soon after the vehicle was stopped, the driver reportedly fled from the spot, taking advantage of the situation. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 52 kg of dry ganja.

Following the seizure, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sabroom reached the spot along with a forensic team. The officials initiated the necessary investigation and collected samples from the seized contraband as part of the investigation.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who questioned how such a large quantity of narcotics could allegedly be transported despite regular naka checking and surveillance in the area.

At the same time, residents welcomed the prompt action by the Srinagar Outpost police in the anti-drug operation. They urged the authorities to intensify regular raids and take stricter measures to curb the illegal drug trade.

Local residents also appealed to the administration to take stronger steps to protect young people from drug abuse and prevent the spread of narcotics in the region.
